June 03

With summer just around the corner, the warmer days and lighter nights make us want to get out and about, and that's just as well with all the various activities that are taking place in the next few weeks.

This Thursday, 5th June, Cath Mawson, BMS Rep for the region is speaking at the Bible Study and Prayer meeting. Cath is travelling from Huddersfield and we have invited Westoe Road, Jarrow and Simonside. Cath will be telling us how BMS missionaries are promoting and living the gospel in places like Brazil and Zaire. There will be a freewill offering at the close of the meeting which will be given to BMS.

Next Sunday, 8th June, is Pentecost. We are hosting a joint service at 6.00pm when we will be joined by St. Lawrence and the Holy Rosary. Rev. Graham White will be leading and Father Tony Cornforth will give the word.

On the 11th June, Gary Smith from the Baptist Union Of Scotland(he took the first part of the service on 16th March) will be with us to discuss the Step Out Mission that is taking place from the 17th to 24th August. This mission will be led by a group of young people from Scotland who, with the Sunday Club leaders, will lead a childrens mission in the mornings and host events in the evenings for teenagers. The meeting is open to anyone who is interested and will commence at 7.30pm. During the mission week we are also looking for people to offer meals and showering arrangements for the group, if you can please speak to Graham.

Our Gift Weekend this year is the 12th/13th July. Rev. David Gordon, also from the Baptist Union Of Scotland, is our guest speaker. We are inviting local Baptist Churches and other fellowships in the town to the Saturday evening event, which will be a Praise evening followed by a faith supper.

Are you going to the Church Day Out this year? We have had a good time at the past two events. This year we are travelling south to Preston Park. The date is the 20th July following the morning service. If you are planning on going please speak to me.

We are looking to develop and enlarge the Building Fund Committee, the project must move forward in order to see the completion of the replacement building. If you think you could do something to assist this project please speak to Graham or myself. As well as committee members we are also looking for ideas for fund raising events and projects, a co-ordinator for grant searching, and a letter writer to request possible grants.
We are also considering a target date for completion of the whole project. A possible suggestion is 2007. Why, because this will be the 50th anniversary ot the Tabernacle at Marsden Road.
We are waiting for you to speak to us, don't be shy.

David
